Looking for a way to celebrate our feline friends in August? Here are some fun August 2018 cat events.

Saturday, August 4 to Sunday, August 5: CatCon

Returning for its fourth year in a row, CatCon is the biggest pop culture cat event in the world, with 16,000 attendees expected. Take part in the seminars and activations, and the 12-plus meet and greets (both feline and human), check out adoptable cats and 150 curated exhibitors selling products in the areas of design, art, fashion, accessories and much more for cats and their people. This year features a performance by Moshow the Cat Rapper and the return of the Furrocious Fashion Face-off. $2 from every ticket goes to the Ian Somerhalder Foundation. Wednesday, August 8: International Cat Day

Give your cat some extra love on this day of recognition for our beloved feline friends. Created in 2002 by the International Fund for Animal Welfare, its purpose is to raise awareness for cats in need.

Friday, August 17: Black Cat Appreciation Day

Created to show people that black cats are nothing to be afraid of, Black Cat Appreciation Day helps raise awareness about black cats in general. Because of outdated – and just plain incorrect – superstitions about black cats, they tend to have a really hard time getting adopted. If you’re looking for a new feline companion, consider adopting a black one. If you already have a black beauty, share photos on social media to spread the word about how wonderful black cats are.

Wednesday, August 22: Take Your Cat to the Vet Day

If you have a cat, you know the trauma of taking her to the vet. Sometimes that trauma causes cat owners to avoid vet visits altogether. And because cats are so good at hiding illness or injury, medical issues can become much worse when they finally do see a vet. So, if your cat hasn’t been to the vet in a while for a wellness check, today’s the day to do it!

Saturday, August 25 to Sunday, August 26: POP Cats, Austin

Put together cat + pop + art, and you get POPCats at the Palmer Events Center in Austin, Texas. Play in the cat-riffic playground featuring adoptable cats; shop in POP Cats heaven for hard-to-find merchandise for cats and humans; enjoy the Instagrammer’s land of cattitude with stunning visual environments charged with feline power; hear stories from cat advocates about the feline world; and get down with great music, contests, raffles and more. Get more information at popcats.org.
