Wildfire season came early for the residents of California. If you are in an area affected by the wildfires, please have your pet-safe evacuation plan and emergency supplies ready. If you are in need of evacuation resources, we have compiled a list of shelters and pet-friendly resources during this emergency situation.

Wildfires breakout in California

Evacuate

According to the American Red Cross, there are multiple shelters open and available throughout the state. Also, most shelters do not allow pets. It is advised to check in with each individual shelter for accommodations prior to vacancy. Consequently, many evacuation shelters partner with animal rescue organizations to accommodate owners with pets.

Active California Wildfires

Carr Wildfire

The Carr Wildfire has gained momentum and is rapidly spreading at a colossal rate.

Due to the velocity of the fire : a shelter has opened at Shasta College. Shasta College is located at 11555 Old Oregon Trail, Redding, CA 96003. Also, Crosspoint Community Church and Weaverville Elementary School are available as an evacuation shelter and resource. The church is located at 2960 Harnell Ave Redding, CA 96002. Weaverville Elementary is located in trinity county, 234 Trinity Lakes Blvd in Weaverville, CA 96093.

Additionally, the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office does assist in relation to Emergency Evacuation of Animals.

Ferguson Wildfire

Due to the speed of the Ferguson fire, the governor declared a state of emergency yesterday afternoon for Mariposa County.  Yosemite National Park has been completely evacuated for safety. Mariposa Elementary is available for evacuation at 5044 Jones Street, Mariposa CA 95338.

Also, The Mariposa County Sheriff’s Department Animal Division has resources available is regards to disaster assistance with providing safety for your pets.

Contra Costa Wildfire

The Brentwood Community Center and Library are providing shelter for evacuees. They are located at 35 Oak St. Brentwood, CA 94513.

The fires of Southern California

There are currently 6 active wildfires throughout southern California ranging between Los Angeles and San Diego. The American Red Cross has identified several open shelters at Banning High School and Palm Desert High School.
